Meet The Crew—City Surf DFW

No matter if you’re a 7am or 7pm surfer, true yogi or cardio connoisseur, you’re bound to cross paths with several of our instructors while at the studio. Our crew is trained to push you, make you sweat, and make you smile—even when you don't want to. Of course, we’re a bit biased, but this crew makes us truly believe there are #NoBadDays.

So who are you hanging 10 and paddling it out with? Get ready. We're going beyond the board with our Meet the Crew series.

Meet Dosh

Meet Dosh

The new guy in town! Welcome back to Dallas, Dosh. Tell us a bit about yourself...

I was born and raised in Austin, TX and went to college at Abilene Christian University in Abilene, TX. I played college basketball, and was hated by lots of football coaches for not playing wide receiver. Worked in accounting at a firm here in Dallas for one year after college, and once I realized I couldn’t prepare another tax return, I left to become a full time fitness professional in 2015. Have been in love with what I do ever since, and won’t go back. I moved back to Austin, and was there for a year. Then I moved to Denver and was there for almost two years. I worked at the City Surf in Denver for just under two years before moving back to Dallas, where you’ll find me now.

You’ve been around with the CSF family for quite a while! We’re so lucky to have you in Dallas now. What excites you about being a member of the City Surf crew?

I love how everyone usually comes in with a positive attitude. Expecting to have fun, yet still be challenged with a unique modality of training.

Fun is our middle name! What is your go-to CSF move during your workouts to keep things challenging, yet fun?

Definitely frogger pushups because it really challenges strength, cardio, and core, all in one.

What does life outside the studio walls look like for you, Dosh?

I can normally be found somewhere in the park doing handstands or reading a book, soaking in the sun and getting my feet in contact with the earth (I promise I’m not a tree hugger)

No, no! We totally get it. There are several benefits of ditching the shoes and going barefoot*. What is your go-to music playlist while workin’ on your fitness?

I actually spend a lot of time curating playlists; you can check them out here

Typically, you’ll see Dosh in the Uptown studio on Wednesday afternoons. Find out what makes Dosh’s classes so great by signing up here. In the meantime, check out his Instagram account for some stellar fitness inspiration!

*Check out the benefits of barefoot training—by making sure his feet have contact with the earth, Dosh is strengthening and training several muscles that tend to get lazy.

"Each day that I see a client achieve a new goal, hit a new milestone, or leave class with a smile is rewarding and a continual reminder of how valuable CSF has been for me in my own fitness journey."

Tell us about y.o.u., Colin

I was born and raised on a horse farm in Louisville, Kentucky. I moved to Dallas in 2008 and graduated from SMU in 2012 with a degree in Economics and Finance. I currently work for PlainsCapital Bank in their National Mortgage Warehouse Lending Division as the Regional Relationship Manager for the South Central United States.

When I’m not at work or in the studio, I tend to spend time traveling. My wife and I love to explore new places. We will be heading to Iceland and British Columbia this summer for hiking and kayaking trips.

How long have you been with the City Surf fam?

I attended my first CSF class in Spring of 2013 after my wife won an unlimited month membership at a Silent Auction for her sorority. I immediately became hooked. We were fortunate to win the one and only Surf and Spin Challenge in Spring 2014 (...where they won a trip to Hawaii! That’s hard work paying off, right there). In the Spring of 2015, I began teaching and have been doing it ever since!

How would people describe your class?

High energy with a laid back atmosphere.

Class should be challenging but fun at the same time; I truly believe people come back to CSF because of our unique format and low stress atmosphere. My style of music tends to be less traditional than the mainstream so it brings a unique vibe to class.

When can we catch you on the board next?

I normally teach Big Kahuna and Pipeline on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. See you there!

As a long-time member of City Surf Fitness, what is it that you love the most?

We truly are a close-knit community. It is so great to see the positive encouragement each of our members give to one another, especially new members trying out class for the first time. Everyone is always willing to help demonstrate in class or provide assistance when necessary.

Meet Whitney

CSF is a great workout concept that makes it fun and interesting! Helps to avoid "workout burnout"

Our fearless Uptown leader, Hi Whitney! Tell us a bit about yourself.

Born and raised in Norman, OK. BOOMER SOONER! I went to college at Oklahoma Baptist University for a year and played college basketball and soccer at the very large height of 4’11 (lolz). After this I transferred to the University of Oklahoma. Moved to Dallas back in 2015 for work and been here ever since.

As a college athlete, I’m sure you’ve had your fair share of workouts. Here at CSF, what is your favorite move we do in class?

Kick-backs. They incorporate numerous body parts and make it easy to swing your body around on the board!

Kick-backs... more like kick-our-butts. What else excites you about CSF?

I love the surf vibes and all of the people I am around on a daily basis. I’m happy to be a part of City Surf and and bring chill vibes to the Dallas community!

When you’re not at the studio (which is a lot)—where can we find you?

Outside of City Surf you can catch me around town coaching youth soccer lessons to various schools and groups. I also enjoy any activity outside in the sun, traveling, and hitting up Mutt’s with my white lab Lincoln!

Youth soccer lessons, that sounds so fun and entertaining! Do you have go-to music playlists for class or lessons?

Of course! Check out my playlists here.

Meet Peggy

Meet Peggy

I always played team sports growing up and being able to sweat and push people in a group setting as an adult has been really fun and something I didn’t realize I missed.

What should the City Surf Community know about you, Peggy?

I was born in Boston and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, I’m a total east-coaster at heart. I attended Loyola University Maryland for undergrad, then moved to Denver and received a Masters in Art History at the University of Denver. After spending several years in Colorado, I moved to Fort Worth for my current job at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art and have been loving the fitness community I joined down here.

We’re so glad you made it down South! What do you enjoy most about the fitness community in Fort Worth?

I always played team sports growing up and being able to sweat and push people in a group setting as an adult has been really fun and something I didn’t realize I missed.

When you’re not pushing people to sweat the studio, whatcha tend to be doing?

Traveling near and far with my husband, working at the museum, enjoying the outdoors, and estate-saling/antiquing

Let’s chat music. What’s your go-to playlist right now?

My go-to when I’m showering, cooking, cleaning, etc. is the Leon Bridges Pandora station, but I might be one of the few people who still use Pandora

You might be. But you know what they say… if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. What else should we know about you?

I went to an all girls high school and played lacrosse and field hockey. I have a big heart for deli sandwiches, UTZ crab chips, and cheese pizza. I also love to embroider.

Meet Elizabeth

Meet Elizabeth

Workouts are equally important for mental health as they are for our bodies. City Surf provides a perfect environment to stimulate our minds and build strength.

Well hello, Elizabeth! Tell us about yourself.

I was born and raised in Texas! I grew up by the beach and the ocean has had my heart ever since. I lived in Hawaii for a few years while attending UH Manoa (yes, I surfed, but hiking was my jam!) Dallas is a fantastic city but I missed the beach vibes so I started working out at City Surf in 2016 and never left.

So you turned from CSF member to instructor? That’s awesome and some true dedication. What is it about CSF that has kept you around for so long?

For me, workouts are equally important for mental health as they are for our bodies. City Surf provides a perfect environment to stimulate our minds and build strength. We’re a like-minded group of individuals who are passionate about loving what we do. Taking care of our bodies with efficient workouts, jamming out to great music, and enjoying every second of it. No shoes—no problem!

Speaking of great music, any playlist recommendations for us?

I’ll never get tired of Spotify’s Soak Up the Sun playlist

When you’re not at the studio, what can you be found doing?

When I’m not at City Surf, you may find me playing sand volleyball in Deep Ellum! I try to stay outdoors whenever I can.

Last but not least, tell us three fun facts about Elizabeth.

My friends call me Eli (like a dude’s name); I’m a pescatarian (a vegetarian that eats fish); Wildly passionate about animals

Meet Henny

Meet Henny

I love CSF because of the chill vibes and fun, stress-free environment that it brings.

Henny, what should the CSF community know about you?

I grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina and moved to Fort Worth 4 years ago to attend TCU. I’m studying environmental science and will be graduating in May. I live in a house with 10 girls (yes, it’s always crazy!). I love Thai food, coconut milk ice cream, and ALL tropical fruits. I’m a beach bum at heart and my biggest aspiration is to live in a beach hut somewhere tropical.

Oh, and—lots of people ask me if my name is short for Hennessy…lol. It’s not.

Not short for Hennessy. Noted!
Are you going to move into that hut after graduation and eat all the tropical fruits or what?

After graduation, I am considering going to grad school for nutrition, but first I want to travel and see the world. I’m hoping to teach English abroad, become a Dive Master, and work at a scuba diving school—preferably somewhere in Southeast Asia or the South Pacific. (yes, diving is one of my passions!)

You’re a beach-loving adventurer. Is this what you like most about City Surf?

I love CSF because of the chill vibes and fun, stress-free environment that it brings. There are always new moves to try on the boards, and the workouts usually include lots of smiles and laughs. I love that new people come to try us out all the time, and there is also a small but special community of members who have been coming to the Fort Worth studio since it opened a year ago.

When you’re not in the studio teaching your Fort Worth community, in a house full of 10 girls, or studying about the environment… where can you be found?

I am a full time student and a part time nanny. When I’m not teaching, you can find me practicing yoga, cooking new recipes, listening to music somewhere outside, or whenever I can escape - traveling, hiking, surfing, and learning about new cultures.

Big music fan, huh? What have you been listening to lately? What playlists should we check out?

Honestly, I’m all over the place with my music. Here are a few of my top playlists at the moment (they’ll change tomorrow, I’m sure):

Meet Aleena

Meet Aleena

It’s a pretty cool thing to be a part of someone’s day, and I try not to forget that it’s a privilege.

Hi, Aleena! One of our longest-tenured instructors. Tell us about #AllThingsAleena:

I grew up on the West Coast and have been a Dallas resident since 2003. I work at a startup and am obsessed with dogs, music, and eating breakfast foods at all hours of the day. I am not that great at yoga but I KILL it on the playlists. City Surf was my first yoga teaching job and 5 years later, I am still here!

We’re your number one fans. So, so lucky to have had you for 5 great years!
Tell us more about those playlists you’re talkin’ ‘bout…

Here is what I have been bumping this month.

Thanks! Will have to give that a run-through (or five). So Aleena, why City Surf?

I am one of the OG City Surf trainers. It’s been incredible to be a part of this from the moment we opened the doors. Mitch and Lauren have really done an amazing job making this a community rather than just a place to work out. I also am blown away by the fact that people have been coming to my class for YEARS. It’s a pretty cool thing to be a part of someone’s day and I try not to forget that it’s a privilege.

Amen, sista. That’s a wonderful mindset. When you’re not in the studio, what’re you up to?

I work for a tech startup based out of San Francisco. If I am not in the office or teaching yoga, it’s easiest to find me at a show somewhere in Deep Ellum or on my couch looking at Gucci Mane’s Instagram.

After you’re done looking at Gucci Mane’s Insta, check out Aleena’s Tuesday night class and hear her newest playlists by booking your board today.

Meet Priscilla

Meet Priscilla

There are many obstacles that get in our way and we all — at some point — need a little help to get to our goal.

Priscilla, tell us a bit about yourself:

I am a native of Fort Worth, Texas with a passion for fitness, puppies, pizza, donuts and music. I received a full athletic scholarship to Texas Tech University to play soccer (Wreck ‘Em Tech!) and moved to Dallas in 2010. I believe in the power within our own selves: setting goals, being kind to ourselves and working for what we truly desire in life. I am most energized when I can help others on their journey to become their BEST self.

When you’re not in the studio pushing us to be our best, where can we find you?

Off the board you can find me doing other fitness classes, from spin to crossfit. I love supporting my friends that teach at other studios. I also love to spend as much time as I can with my dog Walter, friends & family!

What makes you excited about being a part of the CSF fam?

If it were easy, we would all be walking around with our dream bodies. But it isn’t, there are many obstacles that get in our way and we all — at some point — need a little help to get to our goal. The CSF community has helped me get closer to reaching my goals. Everyone is so encouraging and helpful without any judgements.

You’re making us blush! Because we’re a #NoJudgeZone… let us know, what’ve you been rocking out to recently?

I really look forward to New Music Friday; I’m always trying to keep my playlists fun and upbeat!

Meet Anna

Meet Anna

I just followed my deep passion for health and wellness, committed to some bold lifestyle changes, and ended up finding yoga!

What should we know about you Anna?

I was born and raised in Texas, but I’ve definitely always been confused about the culture here. Since a very young age I’ve questioned everything in regards to the world around me. My parents were young, so I didn’t get the opportunity to do any activities outside of going to school everyday. By the time I got to high school, I had no idea what I had to offer to this world and I just felt so behind when comparing myself to my other classmates. Fast-forward to university, I decided to study nutrition. From there, I just followed my deep passion for health and wellness, committed to some bold lifestyle changes (like transitioning to a full plant-based diet) and ended up finding yoga! Now I’m here :)

Tell us a bit more about your experience finding yoga:

I started to practice yoga consistently only a year ago. I never expected to be an instructor. It was just one of those things that happened organically. When I started practicing, everything felt so familiar and right, like I had rediscovered something.

When you’re not teaching others how to ride the waves of life, how do you spend your time?

Currently, I work a restaurant job 3 days a week. You can also catch me checking out different types of yoga and fitness studios in Dallas, grabbing a snack at JUICELAND or I Love Juice Bar, or maybe randomly rollerblading anywhere where I won’t get run over.

Please stay safe, we need you around. What’s your fav part about being a member of the CSF fam?

I haven’t been with CSF for a full year yet, but it really feels like a family. I love how easy going, yet supportive and passionate everyone is. There’s always an opportunity to grow, explore your self expression, and learn more about what it means to be a part of a community.

We’re lucky to have you! What type of tunes do you enjoy playing right now?

I am actually extremely picky and unpredictable when it comes to music, so I don’t have a favorite playlist. BUT; here’s one of my top playlists that I’ve made, enjoy!

Need a good savasana or ready to try your headstand? No matter how advanced your yoga practice is today, hop on a board with Anna!
